    Murdoch

    Sunday, May 4th, 2008

On a perfect day for football the Premier reserve leagues two early front runners locked horns at Len Shearer. With both teams defending one hundred percent records something had to give. The games early exchanges offered few clues as to which team would end victorious with both teams evenly matched. Murdochs keeper was first called into action turning a fiercely struck shot from the edge of the box over the cross bar. With defences on top and both midfields cancelling each other out the game stayed on a knife edge. Murdoch through their Brazilian import were unlucky not to open the scoring when some fine link up play saw Flav lay the ball off to Luiz whose shot glanced the top of the bar with the visitors keeper helpless. As the half progressed an innocuous long ball was shepherded out by the Murdoch centre back for a goal kick, an apparent shove from the chasing forward saw the ball kept in play and then smashed home from close range for a harsh bit of fortune for Murdoch. Murdochs response was positive and they were denied a clear looking penalty when a fine run and shot by the captain Tim Brewer was stoppped by the outstretched arm of a Lynwood defender. The referee who had a strong game turned down the appeals and Murdoch came in at halftime a goal down. A change at half time saw Blaz replace Keanan as both sides set off in similar fashion. The visitor keeper was becoming the busier of the two as Murdoch pushed for the equaliser. Further changes saw Murdoch introduce Martin and Kudzi and the injection of pace saw the Murdoch pressure rewarded as numbers in the box caused a panic that resulted in the reward of a Murdoch penalty. Flav on the back of last weeks hat-trick stepped up to take responsibility and his firmly struck kick was excellently saved by the keeper diving high to his right hand side. From the resulting corner a fiercely struck shot by Blaz was again well saved. As the 90th minute approached several more Murdoch forrays into the opponents last third were resolutely defended as Lynwood closed the game out and ensured that the home teams colours were lowered for the first time this season. Despite the defeat Murdoch can take a lot of positives from the game unfortunately though not the points. (more…)
